This arty soiree may be low on air kissing, but was high on, well, art, as Yuriko Lochan’s first solo art show had Japanese calligraphy and a lot more for the art lovers.
Influenced by Bhagwad Gita, with titles like Chintamani (all wish fulfilling), Abhyas (regular practice) and Achintya (inconceivable), her works were made out of Sumi, that means black ink in English.

Trip To Ladakh: When we caught up with artist Jasleen, she said that she will organise a photography exhibition this month. “I have photographs of Ladakh when it was just opened to tourists in the year 1976. At that time, I was in my early 20s, and had clicked the beautiful Ladakh through my lens,” she told us.
Saving The Girl Child: Shovana Narayan was also present at the show with husband Herbert Traxl. While complimenting the exhibition, she added, “I strongly work for causes, and am doing dance shows that aid in saving the girl child. And soon, you will be seeing me in a different type of a show – based on Tagore, with dance, drama, music, etc.”
Japanese Influence: Besides Yuriko, there are artists like Blanca Dixit Peralta and Madhu Jain who have also been influenced by the Japanese art techniques. In a chat with Madhu, we got to know that she was the first Indian artist to come up with Nihon-ga paintings that actually mean Japanese style paintings. Thus the show went on, and we heard, “Her inspiration is..” “I really like this kind of..” etc.
